Iran says US cannot sow regional chaos and then play victim

Tehran, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei says the United States cannot fuel regional instability and then demand that the international community condemn Iran, holding Washington and Israel responsible for the consequences of their military aggression.

“They attacked Iran twice in less than nine months - while negotiations were underway. They massacred our children in Minab, murdered our daughters in Lamerd, assassinated our leaders, and intensified sanctions on our people,” Baqaei wrote in a post on X on Wednesday.

He said Washington violated a memorandum of understanding it had signed on June 17 to end the war and was now demanding international condemnation of Iran.

“The world is paying the price of your unlawful aggression through regional instability and global economic insecurity,” Baqaei said.

“You cannot launch a war of choice, set the region ablaze, unleash global chaos, and then play the victim,” he added.

Baqaei stressed that the United States could not evade accountability by portraying the aggressor as the victim and Iran as the culprit.

His remarks came in response to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who on Tuesday called on the international community to unite in condemning Iran over what Washington calls Iran’s role in attacks on commercial vessels in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz.
